Terms of use.
These terms are a binding agreement governing your use of the CourseMCP website, extension, API, and MCP service. By creating an account, continuing past the extension disclaimer, or using the service, you accept them.
Effective 5 September 2026.
Eligibility and account
You must be at least 18 or the age of legal majority where you live and able to enter this agreement. Your account is personal, and you are responsible for its security and activity. Do not share credentials or allow another person to use your account.
If you use CourseMCP for an organisation, you represent that you have authority to bind it. Younger students may use CourseMCP only under a separate written institutional arrangement that addresses required school and parental authorisations.
Independent service
CourseMCP is independent and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or approved by Instructure, Canvas, your institution, or an AI-agent provider. Those services have separate terms and policies. References to them identify compatibility only.
Authority to import
You may import only material that you are authorised to copy, upload, process, and use with CourseMCP. The ability to view or download material does not by itself grant those rights. You must follow copyright and licence terms, your institution's acceptable-use and academic-integrity rules, and the terms and technical restrictions of the source service.
CourseMCP accepts files you select and can import from an active Canvas course at your direction. You must not use CourseMCP to automate login, evade access controls or rate limits, discover hidden resources, access another person's information, or use an interface that Instructure or your institution does not permit. We may require evidence of institutional or rights-holder permission.
Your content
You retain your rights in material you submit. You grant CourseMCP a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to host, copy, extract, index, secure, transmit to our service providers, and return portions of that material solely to operate, support, and secure CourseMCP for you. You represent that you have the rights needed to grant this licence. It ends when the material is deleted, subject to backup expiry and legal retention described in the privacy notice.
Acceptable use
Do not use CourseMCP to infringe intellectual-property, privacy, confidentiality, or other rights; upload malware or unlawful material; collect grades, submissions, messages, rosters, credentials, or unnecessary sensitive data about others; facilitate cheating or academic misconduct; harass, harm, or deceive; probe or disrupt the service; bypass safeguards or usage limits; create duplicate accounts to avoid limits; resell access; or build a competing dataset or service.
Reasonable file-size, storage, indexing, concurrency, and request safeguards apply to every plan. We may investigate suspected abuse and restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to protect users, third parties, CourseMCP, or the service.
Plans and payment
The free plan includes one course and 10 search requests per calendar month. The paid plan is $4 USD per month and has no course-count limit, subject to the safeguards above. Applicable taxes may be added at checkout. Subscriptions renew until cancelled. You may cancel at any time, and paid access ordinarily continues through the current billing period. Except where required by law or expressly stated at checkout, charges already paid are non-refundable. Mandatory consumer rights are not excluded.
AI and study use
CourseMCP retrieves source passages; it does not guarantee that an AI answer, embedding match, citation, or imported source is accurate, complete, current, lawful to use, or permitted for an assessment. You are responsible for checking original sources and following academic-integrity requirements. Do not rely on CourseMCP for professional medical, legal, financial, or safety-critical advice.
Third-party services
CourseMCP depends on third-party identity, hosting, storage, payments, embeddings, analytics, error-reporting, source, and agent services. Their availability and policies are outside our control. You authorise the disclosures described in the privacy notice when you request the related feature. We are not responsible for a third-party service or for content it provides, except where applicable law says otherwise.
Our service and IP
CourseMCP and its software, branding, designs, and documentation are owned by us or our licensors. Subject to these terms, we grant you a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the service for your own authorised purposes. You may not copy, sell, sublicense, reverse engineer, or misuse the service except where law or an applicable open-source licence permits it.
Suspension and termination
You may stop using CourseMCP and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate access for a material or repeated breach, legal or security risk, non-payment, or discontinuation of the service. Where practical, we will give notice and a reasonable opportunity to export or delete content. Account deletion removes data as described in the privacy notice. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination do so.
Disclaimers
To the extent permitted by law, CourseMCP is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of uninterrupted availability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy. Nothing in these terms excludes a guarantee, warranty, or remedy that cannot lawfully be excluded, including applicable consumer guarantees.
Liability
To the extent permitted by law, CourseMCP is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary loss, lost data, lost profits, academic outcomes, or loss caused by content or a third-party service. Our aggregate liability arising from the service will not exceed the greater of $100 USD or the amount you paid CourseMCP in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim. These limits do not apply where prohibited by law or to liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
Changes
We may update these terms to reflect service, legal, or security changes. We will post the new effective date and give reasonable additional notice of material changes. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the revised terms; if you do not accept them, stop using the service and delete your account.
General
These terms and the privacy notice form the agreement between you and CourseMCP about the service and replace earlier statements about the same subject. If a provision cannot be enforced, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the remaining provisions continue. A failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer this agreement without our consent; we may transfer it as part of a merger, reorganisation, financing, or sale of the service, subject to applicable law. We are not responsible for delay caused by events reasonably outside our control.
Contact and complaints
Send legal notices, copyright complaints, and questions about these terms to legal@coursemcp.com. Include enough detail for us to identify the material and understand your request. Privacy requests should be sent to privacy@coursemcp.com.
